An inside look at CCBRT’s optical workshop
Take a quick peek at how spectacles are created at CCBRT!

First, an optometrist from CCBRT performs an eye test on the client to determine their prescription. Then, the client picks out optical frames at the well-stocked optical shop.

The lenses are matched with the correct prescription. Then, they are ready to be shaped to fit the selected frames.

One of our expert technicians, like Josef (above), places the lenses in a lensometer, an instrument used to locate and mark the "optical centre" with precision. The optical centre is the point of the lens that should be centred over the client's pupil.

Next, adhesive tape is attached to the front of each lens to keep it from being scratched while the lens is being shaped. The technician then places one lens at a time in a "blocker" machine, which contains a heated lead alloy that fuses the block to the front of the blank. The blocks are used to hold each lens in place during the grinding process.

In a tracing machine, a needle traces the outline of the frame to determine the size of the lenses. This information is automatically relayed to the generator.

Then, Josef places each lens into a generator, a grinding machine that is set for the optical prescription. The generator grinds the lenses into the correct shape.

Afterward, Josef uses a power grinder to achieve a more precise shape for fitting into the frames.

Finally, the finished lenses are inserted into the client’s frame.
And that is how our optical technicians, like Josef, create spectacles at CCBRT!
