Disability Is Not Inability

People with disabilities face environmental and social barriers that limit access to employment, education, transportation, and social inclusion. More than half of children with disabilities do not attend school as a result of their health or activity limitations.

In response, our Advocacy & Alliances Team mobilizes CCBRT’s technical expertise, strong presence in the community, and international reputation to advocate for the rights of people with disabilities and promote disability inclusion in Tanzania.

The Advocacy team conducts research, lobbies the government and other development actors and facilitates trainings in disability inclusion to corporate and public bodies. CCBRT has been very active in ensuring that the rights of people with disabilities are recognised and protected in the recent redrafting of the Tanzanian Constitution, as well as ensuring that organisations are aware of their legal obligations regarding employment people with disabilities.

With only 3.1% receiving income from paid employment, households headed by persons with disabilities experience greater levels of poverty.
